Course Changes & Tee Markers
The Pines Course Committee has instituted several changes to the course for the 2019 season. The committee has changed the color of the tee markers, added two new tee boxes (on #5 and #13), added some “blended” tees, and shortened the length of some tees, in the expectation that the changes will make for a more enjoyable golfing experience for everyone. It is expected that these new tees (and associated colors) will be in place at the beginning of the 2019 season.
The old blue tees will now be the “black” tees; the old white tees will now be the “blue” tees; the old gold or yellow tees will now be the “white” tees, and the old red tees will now be the “green” tees. There will also be several sets of “blended” tees. All new tees have been slope- and par-rated by the West Virginia Golf Association. There will also be several blended sets of tees. All of the blended tees, have also been slope- and par-rated for men, and the green tees have been slope- and par-rated for both men and ladies. In addition, several of the hole handicaps have been changed.

Ready for golf? YES, me too. Looks like mother nature is finally starting to work in our favor, and with The Players Championship moving to March and The Master’s and PGA Championship just around the corner, it’s time to put golf on a permanent schedule for the rest of the year. Our Men’s, Senior Men, and Women’s leagues are all gearing up and everything is starting the first of April! Make sure your plans to play more golf and be a part of the great leagues.
- GHIN posting is active again – The USGA handicap posting is now up and ready to receive scores. Stop in the Pro Shop and post your scores – 9 hole scores too.
- $45 Guest coupons available
- Tee Times required – You can make tee times 2 weeks in advance
- Walking permitted Monday-Friday, after 11:00 on Saturday & Sunday
We are very excited about some new things that are happening with not only our club, but in the game of golf too. The USGA made some rules changes, that we feel will make not only a big impact on the fun side, but also speed up the game as well. A few of the biggest changes:
- Leaving flag stick in while you putt
- Dropping your ball from knee height
- You now only have 3 minutes to look for a lost ball
- Moving loose impediments from sand traps and penalty areas
The club is still looking into a new rule that allows facilities to create a local rule to combat the stroke and distance rule for a lost ball or out of bounds – Stay tuned
We also upgraded our bag room this winter, and have a more organized and cleaner space for your golf clubs, pull carts or electric cart. We do have limited space, so come see us and get your spot.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is anything that I or the staff can do to make your golf experience a better one.
Welcome to our 2019 golf season!! It’s been too long a winter, and if you haven’t made a trip south, been hitting in our simulator orsmacking it around the few good days we have had, shame on you!! To let your golf game sit on the shelf for 3-4 months is not good for you.
Time for a Tune up: If it’s a yearly physical with your doctor, a checkup with your mechanic for your car or replacing the filters for your home’s heating and a/c system, you are always making sure that you are taking the necessary steps to keep things running smooth and staying healthy. Let’s put your golf swing and game on this check list. Come get your spring golf lesson and let’s get you playing the best golf of your life!!!
To start the season, I know most of you have been on golf vacation and haven’t been hitting balls or working on your game. Maybe you haven’t even picked up one of your clubs in a few months. As the weather gets better and the golf bug bites you, just remember to start slow and build your body back into golfing shape. This starts with the grip!!! No matter whether you have a 10 finger grip, interlocking, or overlapping grip type, a loose and relaxed grip pressure will be a necessity to start your range program and let you spend some quality time on the practice area without blisters or hurting hands and fingers.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at the club soon!!

We love and pride ourselves on the future of the game, and our junior golf programs are a major artery for our facility. Coming out to the range, putting green or the course, we get so excited for our members to make it a family affair.
This year to go along with our amazing summer program, we are joining the PGA and we will be staring a PGA Junior league. This is open to boys and girls 13 and younger. We will have team practices and play some other teams from our area in team competitions this spring and summer. Call the golf shop for more information.
Our junior summer program application is online on our website. Sign up for the entire summer or individual sessions!! We will cover Full Swing, Chipping, Putting and have some course time. The MOST fun your little ones will have all summer!!
I hope everyone is excited for the 2019 season which is right around the corner. We have been very busy this winter with the usual equipment preventative maintenance work that is done each off-season, tree removal and the construction of new forward tees on #5, #7 & #13. These tees are scheduled to open by mid-April. Greens aerification is scheduled for March 18 & 19 with March 25 & 26 being backup dates in case of unsuitable weather. My staff and I are very excited for the new golf season and are committed to make it the best season yet at the Pines.
